Introduction (for Foot Reflexology follow this link)
Facial reflexology (Face reflexology) is a recent development in the world of complementary therapies, combining aspects from many disciplines and practices. In and around Bromley, Orpington and now Canary Wharf, you have the opportunity to discover this powerful treatment by one of the first qualified facial reflexologists in the UK.
Facial reflexology is a powerful treatment proven to be effective for numerous conditions whether they are acute, chronic or minor. Its success lies in stimulating specific points via the central nervous system, addressing both the cause and symptom. Like many other complementary therapies, Facial reflexology works with the whole, treating you on every level: emotionally, mentally and physically. This treatment is deeply relaxing; pressure is applied by hand or stimulation is by soft laser to specific parts of your face, depending on the condition(s) being treated.
The roots of this discipline lie in ancient oriental methods of acupuncture and meridian re-balancing, but also combines theories and practices from Aboriginal, Vietnamese and European methods in the various stages of the treatment, as well as including neurological functionality.
Technical analysis Facial reflexology is a combination of techniques, working directly with the central nervous system and targeting specific points to regulate its complete function. By working precise points in the face the stimulation creates an impulse which is transmitted to the brain. Stimulation also encourages the release of serotonin, a chemical that helps maintain a feeling of contentment, and which controls sleep, calms anxiety, and relieves depression. Insufficient levels of serotonin are believed to be the cause of depression and can result in apathy, fear, feeling worthless, lethargy and fatigue. Therefore Facial reflexology achieves fast and effective results, as well as achieving a profound state of relaxation and well being. Facial reflexology has achieved critical acclaim in both conventional and complementary medical worlds.
During a treatment session A qualified practitioner will use the "information gathered" through touch (via the application of gentle pressure) from the various stages of the treatment. The core imbalance will be identified, utilising the meridian flow (the meridians and their subtle energies require fine-tuning and perfect synchronicity for good health and vitality). An individual treatment plan emerges from these findings, its aim is to assist your body's own healing processes, stimulating specific neurological points on the face; these comprise points addressing both the cause and the symptom. Primarily, the treatment is by hand; in addition there is bio-stimulation of the points using a soft laser. A soft laser transmits light at a wavelength, which is similar to the light emitted by the cells in our bodies (as measured by the Nobel Prize winner Dennis Gabor). The use of the laser is optional, but permits the practitioner to stimulate points at a deeper level, mimicking the body's natural mechanisms. You remain dressed during the session, it is a non-invasive practice, being completely safe and is suitable for all ages.
Effective in many conditions Facial reflexology does not claim to cure; however, a notable improvement in the quality of life for people living with many conditions, whether acute, chronic or minor has been reported. A Danish institution specialising brain injuries carried out investigative research into the findings of facial reflexology over a two-year period, its conclusion widely supporting it as a viable and effective therapy. On a general note, it helps increase blood circulation, regulates the body's own chemistry, and stimulates lymphatic drainage. Examples of more common conditions addressed are:

How many sessions will I need?
Each case is unique, but your practitioner will perform an initial assessment of your meridian (energy flow) imbalances during the first session, as well as taking a full lifestyle and medical case history. Subsequent sessions will consist of a complete treatment including precise stimulation of points identified during your first appointment. Although not everybody will respond to the treatment in the same way, this being dependent on how you live your life from day to day, the majority will see results in a short time. Many people usually want relief from their symptoms; however the beauty of facial reflexology is that you also address the cause, thereby improving the overall quality of life.
A beneficial side-effect, and one which on the continent is becoming the main reason for undergoing Facial Reflexology, is that it tones the muscles and eliminates wrinkles. Its a win-win scenario!
Please note this is a completely separate therapy to Foot Reflexology.
